Autumn at home
We all have that slight sadness when summer comes to an end. Even if it isn’t the best one ever, summer is something we enjoy. Then, suddenly, the Christmas cards start to appear in the shops - before you’ve even sorted Halloween - young ones have started new schools or left for university. The clocks change, the evenings get cooler.
And then you remember all the things that mean autumn, and even winter, aren't all bad. You know, things like casseroles, and real fires. Brisk walks. Your favourite coat.
It’s a time for the warmer things in life. Chiming with all of that, right now the world of interior decor is full of rustic autumnal tones, soft fabrics and glowing colours, setting a style for your home that will be as cosy as can be in the lead up to Christmas.
When it comes to times of family gatherings and celebrations the heart of a room is always the sofa. You won’t find anything more timelessly stylish and exuding English elegance than pieces from Alexander and James. We love the Pemberley chairs and Maxi Sofas from this high quality furniture maker.
Or, if you’re looking for a slightly more contemporary take on things the Ercol Gela range is the one to take. Subtle colours, Ash turned timber legs and button back cushions - they all add up to a style statement.
What are autumn evenings and festive family get- togethers for if not dining? There’s a lot to love about the Norfolk Oak dining range. There are some superb coffee tables, units and dining chairs. The dining table itself is extendable which, for a rugged modern table, is very versatile.
Let’s set the table. Legendary brand Denby is a great place to start. The Denby Halo Pasta Bowls are absolutely right for a family meal in a warming and heartwarming home. Have a drink? Super stylish maker Stolzle have a glass for every occasion and every drink - from beer to wine to champagne. Nothing sets off a table more than beautiful, and fashionable, glassware and this range is as cool as ice cubes.
But you’ll want the atmosphere to be warm and the right lighting is the way to enhance that. Turn off the glare of the central lights and match the muted tones of your furnishing with the softer glow of a table lamp. The Priscilla Table Lamp is something we adore. Maybe it’s the tiny ceramic hanging heart on its bottle shaped base that does it. Whatever it is, you’ll love it too.
And when the party’s over, and the guests have gone, it’s time for bed. If you want a bed, and bedroom furniture, that’s both ‘now’ and timeless you simply have to see the Carmen range. This premium oak furniture doesn’t shout style, it whispers it with understated tones, neat distressed handles and the quiet confidence that can only come from craftsmanship.
The Carmen style is a style that you can carry right through your home, or keep solely for the bedroom. Check it out. It’s stunning.
For finishing touches, which again you can add to the bedroom, or any room, there’s nothing better - especially in autumn - than a cosy throw. Take a look at the Clarissa Hulse Boston Ivy Sulphur range. Clarissa Hulse is a star of the British textile world and this collection of bed linen and throws, printed on smooth 200 thread count cotton percale, totally typifies her obsessions with quality and colour.
So, we’ve been all around the house. Or more importantly home. We’ve got so much for you to see and choose from when it comes to making the most of the colour ways and combinations that are setting the trends for autumn, and yet will, timelessly, still be brilliant when the summer sun comes back. It’s all in our Autumn brochure.
Meantime, make the most of the gorgeous tones, soft touch fabrics and rustically stylish pieces. Pour a glass, serve the casserole, light the fire. See? You love autumn. You really love autumn at home.
